Visiting a winery with your sweetie is a popular Valentine’s activity, and many vintners sugar the pot by offering chocolaty treats alongside their libations.
A few suggestions: Goosecross Cellars plans an afternoon of wine, chocolate and romance on Feb. 11 at its tasting room in pedestrian-friendly Napa Town Center. Mumm Napa has bottled some beautifully packaged Valentine’s Day sparkling wines that might provide just the courage a suitor needs to pop the question. Want to sip and stroll? Vintners Square in Santa Rosa, with three artisan wineries, a selection of shops and ample dog-friendly patio seating, is a good bet in fair weather. So is Santana Row, San Jose’s premier see-and-be-seen destination and always a winning choice for urban dining with Rover. Murphys, the hip town in the Calaveras County foothills, features more than 20 downtown tasting rooms, many of them dog friendly, along with numerous outdoor restaurants that welcome canines at heated outdoor tables.
In the Sacramento area, the Old Sugar Mill, a historic complex in Clarksburg, houses eight dog-friendly tasting rooms, all of which are participating in a Port, Wine and Chocolate Lovers’ Weekend event Feb. 10-11. The $20 ticket includes a commemorative glass, tastings, entertainment and more.
