Wags and wine in Lake County

Lake County is known for its diverse lakes and explorable wineries. In fact, they have the most dog-friendly wine country in the U.S. with over 30 wineries that welcome your dog. Discover 3,000 acres of private trails at Six Sigma Ranch & Winery. There is plenty to sniff out, from grapevines and moss-covered oak trees to wild turkeys (and of course, wine for their people). Sip and roam for days at the ranch’s “Huttopia” glamping experience featuring ready-to-camp tents, tastings and a rustic cafe.

Cool off with some (dog) paddling in the spring-fed waters of Blue Lakes. Seated below a stunning canyon, The Lodge at Blue Lakes offers a wide variety of watercraft rentals, many of them dog-friendly. Do what floats your boat – fish, swim, stand-up paddle board or just soak up the sun. Wipe your paws and then meander over to the lodge to one of their pet-friendly rooms. Let your pup choose from lake views or canyon views.

There’s plenty of pooch friendly alfresco dining available within Lake County. Laze under sycamore trees over lunch or dinner on a veranda at Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake. Other pup-approved patios include a stop for a “hangover brunch” at Red’s at the Skyroom in Lakeport where a fried chicken and waffle sandwich and a bloody mary flight await. 

Over in Kelseyville, the Saw Shop Public House serves up gigantic homemade cinnamon rolls and a slow roasted pulled pork chili verde benedict served on a crispy baguette. Get a seat inside or out for you and your pack at Kelsey Creek Brewing Company and enjoy their nine rotating taps of delicious craft beer.
