Set within 10 miles of Auburn and Interstate 80, Hidden Falls Regional Park covers 1,200 scenic acres in the Sierra Nevada foothills. More than 30 miles of multi-use trails here welcome cyclists, horseback riders, and hikers with leashed pups in tow. Some paths provide year-round waterfall views, while others are great for wildlife watching. There’s a short, ADA-accessible trail section, as well.
The Western States Pioneer Express Recreation Trail also welcomes dogs on a leash. For an easy walk with American River views, check out the railroad bed section. This pretty, two-mile out-and-back follows the old Mt. Quarries tracks near Auburn.
Head to Roseville for the Miners Ravine Trail, a paved, 8.4-mile out-and-back that parallels Dry Creek for much of the way. The multi-use trail crosses through wetlands, oak woodlands and grasslands (expect gorgeous seasonal wildflowers!), and it’s a popular place to walk with leashed dogs.
