From the looks of things, you’d never guess it’s January in Marin. The rain has eluded us for months, and though we really need the water, the bright side is that now is a great time to hit the trails.
Our Research Lab, Kayla has put the paws to the path in thousands of miles of California trails, and last weekend she checked out out a new one at the San Anselmo Sorich Ranch Open Space.
This wide open space is riddled with hiking trails and is ideal for dogs and their people of all ages; as was seen by the large, diverse group of dogs and their people we passed on the trail.
Dogs are allowed off-leash everywhere except two small trails (Sorich Park Trail & Dan Abraham Trail). There is a moderate incline and plenty of shade, but no water so be sure to bring enough for everyone. Waste bags are available at the entrance. (p.s. Please be a responsible dog owner and pick up after your dog to help protect our access to Marin county parks.)
The main entrance is at the end of San Francisco Blvd out of San Anselmo. There is a small parking lot, with more parking in the residential neighborhood close by. Please observe quiet zones in residential neighborhoods as you head to the trailhead.
Though a longer trek, you can also get there via the Terra Linda Sleepy Hollow Open Space Preserve. From Hwy 101 in San Rafael, take the Freitas Pkwy/Terra Linda exit west. MCOSD gate is at the end of Freitas Pkwy.
Whichever way you get there, Sorich Ranch is a wonderful escape that will take you high above the hustle and hum of town and allow you and your pup ample space to cut loose.
