For all its recreational attributes, Lake Tahoe has few places where dogs can swim or romp off-leash. If your pooch needs to run off steam, we suggest a trip to Bijou Dog Park in South Lake Tahoe, a newish, one-acre play space with fenced sections for large and small dogs. The location between Highway 50 and Pioneer Trail is convenient to lodging, and the locals you’re likely to encounter here are laid-back and friendly. On the North Shore, Tahoe City Dog Park opened in June with private funding from the Tahoe City Public Utility District, the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe and generous private individuals. The park is fenced, double gated and the source of much community pride.
