Ronnie, dog at Humane Society of Truckee-TahoeMeet Ronnie, who’s about 8 months old and discovering training for the first time at the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe. Luckily, this bouncy boy is bright, anxious to please, and learning fast, and he’s hoping to find a person who’ll enjoy working with him and teaching him new things. At about 30 pounds, Ronnie’s on the small side and has a sunny disposition—he’s one of those pit bulls who loves everybody. To find out more about Ronnie, call the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe at (530) 581-3199 or email nanette@hstt.org.

Providing a safety net for Ronnie and all the pets of the Truckee-Tahoe area has been the mission of the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe for some time now, and thanks to enthusiastic community support, which ranges from hundreds of hands-on volunteers to funding from the Town of Truckee, it’s been remarkably successful. Which is all the more amazing because the area’s sole “shelter,” which they’ve been using for lack of a better one, is a temporary structure slated for demolition years ago, not to mention inadequate for both the number of animals who need it and the number of people who want to visit and adopt.

All that’s due to change if the HSTT is able to build a new state-of-the-art shelter on land donated by the Town. With $2.4 million raised toward that goal, the Humane Society has launched its Heroes Now & Forever campaign in search of individuals, groups, or businesses who will donate $1,000 each to the new shelter so the last $1 million can quickly be raised.

Also supporting the HSTT are a couple of festive, tasty and tuneful dog-friendly events in upcoming weeks, so if you’re headed to the Tahoe area, mark your calendars for some good fun for a good cause!
