Dogs On A Mission

By: DogTrekker Staff

Canine ambassador Zeus at Fairmont Mission InnIn the old days, San Franciscans journeyed by stagecoach and boat to soak their cares away at Boyes Hot Springs on the outskirts of Sonoma. Today they come by car, sometimes with pets in tow, to enjoy the luxury and romantic ambience of the Fairmont Mission Inn and Spa, a bright pink, 1927 landmark built in Spanish mission style atop a hot spring discovered in 1895.

One of the most dog-friendly hotels is wine country, the Mission Inn makes a great jumping-off point for exploring Sonoma County by food and by car. The 226-room property, which charges $25 a night for up to two canines of any size in a guest room, is one of several Fairmonts in the United States and Canada to participate in the chain's Canine Ambassador program.

Zeus, the resident chocolate Lab, keeps an eye on the lobby, co-leads guest hikes and is always available for a pat. Ask at the front desk for suggestions on where to roam with your own canine companion; the staff will be happy to oblige.
