This "living museum of desert lore" was established in 1938 and has been wowing plant-lovers ever since. The private arboretum's collection includes more than 3,000 desert plants in concentrated habitats along a natural trail. Rare plants are displayed in what is billed as the world's first cactarium. Petrified wood and dinosaur fossils also are on display.
• Leashed, well behaved dogs are welcome to accompany you on trails.
