Camp Nauvoo is a small (16 sites), family-owned campground near Placerville.
Entering its first full summer season with dog-friendly tent sites strung out along a post-card-pretty Sierra stream, Camp Nauvoo has actually been around for awhile, having started as a Mormon girls camp in the 1960s and passed to the Boy Scouts for a few years before being taken over by local residents Greg and Laurie Rose.
Besides dog-friendly, pitch-your-own tent sites, the camp offers unfurnished platform tents, a pair of plains Indian-style teepees and two luxury, safari-style “glamping” tents for those in your party who are unaccompanied by canines.
The comfy lodge has a fireplace, restrooms, showers and barbecue area, while a big fire circle serves as an evening gathering place. There’s also a children’s playground, volleyball courts and more than two miles of hiking trails on the 86-acre property. All sites are walk-in, but carts are provided to help transport your gear. Please keep your dog on a leash.
It is recommend that you pre-treat your dog with Advantage or similar topical flea and tick repellent 3 days prior to arrival.
