“Pets welcome” is not just a saying at the Stanford Inn. It’s a decades-old commitment from owners Joan and Jeff Stanford. Every room is dog friendly, with no breed or size restrictions. Upon arrival, dogs are provided easily digested sweet potato treats, protective bed sheets, stainless-steel water and food bowls and Intelligent Products pick-up bags. Trash receptacles are conveniently located throughout the nine-acre property. For breakfast (included in the rates) and dinner, well-behaved dogs may join their people at special tables in the lobby, just outside the main dining room.
Adjacent to the Stanford Inn, outfitter Catch-A-Canoe & Bicycles Too rents dog-friendly watercraft for exploring the Big River estuary. New to the fleet is the Canine Cruiser, the 19th handmade redwood outrigger in Catch-A-Canoe’s eclectic collection of kayaks and canoes. A roomy and stable platform in the center of the craft can accommodate up to four canine passengers, allowing them to sit, stand or lie down as the scenery slides by.
