calendar with earth day, april 22, circledCities all over Northern California will be throwing Earth Day celebrations this coming weekend, and dogs are welcome at just about any festival taking place outdoors. So put the leash on Rover, pack some biodegradable pickup bags and enjoy strolling from booth to booth making sustainable connections.

In the Bay Area, scads of Earth Day events are scheduled for both Saturday, April 21, and Sunday, April 22. Largest by far is the Sunday festival at Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco, which will feature three stages of multi-cultural music with an expected attendance topping 15,000. Moving east, SacramentoRoseville, Napa and Tahoe/Truckee will salute sustainability on Saturday, while Reno turns out for Mother Earth on Sunday. Meanwhile, don’t forget about U.C. Davis Picnic Day, said to be the largest student-run event in the nation with estimated attendance of 125,000. The 98th annual fest takes place Saturday and includes dozens of dog-related exhibitors and events, including a pit bull kissing booth, a Frisbee dog competition, sheep-dog trials, and the ever-popular Doxie Derby.
