Should you only have time for a Valentine’s day-trip from the Bay Area, our suggestion for a February outing with your canine sidekick is Point Reyes National Seashore. Winter days on the coast are often fog-free, offering sweeping views you seldom get in summer. Don’t be put off by the long list of National Park Service warnings about where you can’t go with a dog at this coastal preserve north of San Francisco. Focus on where you can go and you’ll be well rewarded. On the way to or from, stop in Tomales Bay and savor some oysters at Nick’s Cove, where every table has a view and the seafood is so fresh it’s almost flopping. Daisy will have to wait in the car while you dine, but she won’t mind; the beach romp will have turned her to jelly. Just remember to bring a towel so you don’t bring too much of the beach home with you. And if you want to really win over your sweetheart, book a surprise overnight stay in one of Nick’s romantic, dog-friendly cabins.
