Be Tempted by Tenaya

Just outside Yosemite National Park’s  south (Wawona) entrance, the 302-room, Four-Diamond Tenaya Lodge awaits DogTrekking families with some very tempting kibble. Sunset magazine named it Best Resort for Pets in 2015 and Best Resort for Families in 2016, and no wonder: A destination within a destination, it offers myriad on-site and area activities aside from the national park. In summer there are climbing walls, an archery range, movies by the pool, bike rentals, horseback riding, Western-themed barbecues and hikes in the surrounding Sierra National Forest. In winter, families enjoy cross-country skiing or sledding on snow-covered hills.

Tenaya’s pet package includes a Fido-friendly room, one-time pet fee and concierge sheet with doggie do’s and don’ts. For the royal treatment, upgrade to the Deluxe Pampered Pet Package, which incudes a dog toy, treats and two hours of pet sitting (also available separately, as is a boarding kennel). And it’s not just pet parents who can enjoy a relaxing treatment at the spa; doggie massages are available, too!

For children, Tenaya’s Sierra Adventure Club Day Camp for kids ages 5-12 provides a fun-filled day of outdoor activities led by resort guides. Evening activities are available, too, along with professional childcare. A major effort is made to help families with fourth-graders take advantage of the Every Kid in A Park program, which provides free admission to Yosemite and hundreds of other federal parks, lands and waters for a year.
