Thanks to innovative thinking, creative collaborations and a whole lot of community support, Napa Humane is able to provide a wide range of services to the county's critters and their human families. Partnering with the Napa County Animal Shelter, these good folks bring dogs (as well as kitties and rabbits) from the shelter to the Napa Farmers Market to meet and greet prospective new families. But keeping pets in the loving homes they've already got is usually a better solution for all involved, and that's where a big part of Napa Humane's work is directed, from spay/neuter/microchip/ vaccination clinics and licensing to behavior training and health tips.

It's not just Napa County's animals who benefit—as the Valley Fire raged in neighboring Lake County, Napa Humane sent its mobile adoption van and several staff members, including lead veterinarian Richard Bachman, to help out Lake County Animal Care & Control as hundreds of fire-displaced pets arrived at the shelter. In addition, Napa Humane sent along many thousand dollars' worth of vaccines and veterinary supplies.

All this is possible because Napa County's businesses, organizations, and individuals keep coming up with new ways to help out, including fun stuff to do while raising funds. Following this summer's notably successful Walk for Animals, this weekend's Harvest Hounds event on Saturday, October 17 at HALL St. Helena (which is donating the entire tasting fee and 10 percent of wine sales to Napa Humane) offers two-for-one wine tasting, delectable snacks for humans and canines, plus a full schedule of doggie recreation. Some tickets are still available—make your weekend plans now!
